Unions say staff were left “shell-shocked” following the announcement by the Trinity Mirror that it was planning to close its final salary pension schemes.

Isn't it usually newspapers that pay their staff? Common practice we thought.

However, in a daring new initiative that might be set to revolutionise the world of publishing recruitment, the Lancashire Telegraph appears to be asking for a new reporter to actually pay for the opportunity to "find the stories, meet the people and be part of the race to meet deadlines."
