John Parkinson Jones major claim to fame as a photographer was his height: at 6 feet 5 inches he was almost certainly the tallest around at the time.
More than one generation of the elite of the region’s advertising and media community had its proudest moments chronicled by the lens of Parky-Jones.
Some may also recall his challenges relating to focusing and lighting as well as a bizarre propensity to ocasionally lop people’s heads off - photographically, not literally.
Parky-Jones had a tough time in later life after being declared bankrupt following the failure of his photographic business.
He was a thoroughly decent man.
He died in January 2001 and at a First Friday lunch immediately after his passing, the then chairman, Mel Harding, aptly commented: “John was not always easy company, but there isn’t anybody here today who would not now be happy to be sitting next to him.”Something to add?
