How-Do has learnt that Channel M will be moving to GMG’s radio base at Laser House in Salford Quays and is also planning to start commissioning new programmes from third party producers.
A story in today’s Guardian reporting that BBC Radio 5 Live's move to Salford has been hit by a three-month delay and will now not be completed until November 2011 have been denied by a BBC spokesperson speaking to How-Do.
Edge Hill University is to end its journalism courses and stop accepting new entrants from September.
It comes as the course’s programme leader, Angela Birchall prepares to leave the University to take up the post of director of journalism and communication at the University of Salford in April.
A staff meeting at Channel M was called this morning at 10.30 am and has just finished. How-Do understands that although the station will continue to broadcast, there will be no further original programming on the station as from Friday. The number employed at the station will fall from the current 33 to four.
The BBC has announced within the last few minutes that its entire Learning department will now be based at MediaCityUK, with an extra 32 posts moving to Salford.
The Chase looks set to move into its next generation with two major new signings for the company. The first of the two arrivals at its Parsonage Gardens headquarters is Carl Leek, formerly head of the design company Hutchsion Leek, and Richard Scholey (pictured) from Elmwood.
The fate of Channel M is likely to be decided during a high-level phone conference later today. The conference will see five interested parties – Sky, Freeview, Virgin, Asian Sound Radio (ASR) and current owners, GMG – discuss possible ways forward for the troubled channel and its multiplex facility.
