Peel Media, the developer of mediacity:uk, has appointed international property agents Cushman & Wakefield to help promote the site to UK and international occupiers.

Cushman & Wakefield claims to be the world's largest privately owned commercial property agency and transacted over 10 million sq ft of office space across Europe in 2006.

The property agency, which has an office in Manchester, will be working with Peel Media to market and sell the 200 acre development site at Salford Quays.

The BBC has already signed up for circa 500,000 sq ft of office and production space and should both ITV Granada’s and Salford University’s Media Faculty proposed relocations take place, it is estimated that between 1m to 1.5m sq ft of space will be occupied at the site.

Ed Burrows, property director of Peel said: "The scale and reach of this development makes it one of the most significant instructions in the UK. We are focusing initially on ensuring that the mediacity:uk offering is the number one choice for the whole of the media industry and we believe that Cushman and Wakefield's international expertise is ideally suited to assisting the team create the best environment to attract a range of media and creative industries."

Tony Bray, head of North West business space at Cushman & Wakefield was not able to comment on specific prospective tenants but he did say that the discussions were underway with a number of parties. He added that together with Peel, a ‘hit list’ of potential targets was being drawn up.

However, with the limited number of ‘old media’ companies in the market – broadcasters such as the Beeb, ITV,  Channels 4 and 5 etc -  much of the focus will be on new media and digital industries he told How-Do.

“New media is really dynamic and although the size of the companies at this stage is smaller, there are many more of them and we are really keen to see a healthy mix of companies at mediacity:uk.

“The focus on the technology, media and telecoms sector will provide a world class business environment for both national and global firms.  We will be levering Cushman & Wakefield's global platform to attract world renowned tenants to complement the BBC and we are extremely pleased to be able to work on a project which will impact significantly on the economy of the North West."
