Communities Minister and local MP Hazel Blears has visited Salford Quays to check on developments at the site.
A key part of the visit said her office was to see how employment opportunities were shaping up.
Blears on site The 200 acre site is anticipated to generate over 15,000 jobs as it gets into full operation from 2001 onwards.
A number of jobs and apprentices relating to architecture, construction and planning have already been created as a result of the building process now underway.
The BBC will be basing around 2,500 staff at mediacity:uk with ITV Granada and Salford University’s proposed Faculty relocation – should they both confirm - chipping in a further 1500 jobs between them.
As reported elsewhere on How-Do, a number of other companies and organisations are now looking more seriously at the site since the Beeb confirmed its intentions.
Blears said: “I was delighted to visit the mediacity:uk site and meet with the trainees, apprentices and employees.
“It was fantastic to see the huge benefits that the mediacity development is already bringing to Salford. Jobs and opportunities are being created that will ensure more local youngsters are given the chance to have a worthwhile career in the competitive world of the media industry.”
