'Big Al' launches online radio station

Alan Nield, a former presenter on Steve Penk’s 96.2 The Revolution, has set up his own online radio station that doubles as an offers website.

NiftyUK is focusing on local offers which it says supports High Street businesses in small towns.

Neild, who broadcasts as Big Al, was sacked from Oldham-based The Revolution following a row over the way it handled the two-minute silence on Armistice Day.

He told How-Do his new venture was, "an online commercial radio station in conjunction with a website".

"The radio station will drive more people to the website which shows people the offers that are available.

"We can monitor how many people are listening which is something commercial radio has never been capable of doing. That puts us in a nice position with advertisers.

"In the last three or four days we've had a couple of big names who've wanted to advertise."

The station will have a soft launch on February 17 and go live with a 24-hour roster of presenters from March 5.

Some of these will be media students at Oldham College where the shows will be produced.
