BBC North has confirmed that 50,000 people have applied for just over 500 jobs at its new MediaCityUK base.
There were around 48,000 applications as of last week and that number has continued to grow.
Bosses are now in the process of sending out emails to people who managed to get through the initial assessment.
The move has resulted in the largest single recruitment drive in the history of the BBC with the entire process being done online.
Over the coming months BBC Children’s, Radio 5 Live, Future Media and Technology and BBC Learning will start moving North, with BBC Sport and BBC Breakfast arriving later on.
Studios are already starting to be in use, with Woman’s Hour making its debut last week and live television broadcasts slated for tomorrow.

Surely you must have realised when you applied for the job when the main BBC move was going to take place?
And if you are intolerant to bureacuracy, may I suggest the BBC may not be your best bet as an employer?
Suzanne you sound very bitter but you do make me laugh. Would you consider a cyber-romance please?
And yet another email this morning...
"Dear Suzane, (sic) Many apologies if it has been a little while since we have been in touch. We have been delighted with the interest that you and so many others have shown regarding working at BBC North."
Yeah, whatever

I sent my cv online back in June and passed the assesments back in July 2010... hopefully might hear something now... woop woop!
Yes @Doug .. I am one of the 50,000 hopefuls and I have been waiting 12 months, being one of the first to register at the BBC North Jobs website and completing the online assessment back in March 2010
@Suzanne. Its a massage you need not psychometric tests. Having passed the tests though is it wise to use your own name to vent your spleen? Asssuming of course you are (maybe were!) hoping for a position with them.
I did one of the psychometric tests and felt like throwing a brick through my PC screen. What a bureaucratic unimaginative and tedious way to assess people.
I passed and got through to the next level, which the BBC grovellingly reminds me of via a patronising email once a month.
Oh the BBC makes my blood boil sometimes.
Grrrrrrrrrrrrr
@Liam OToole - do I assume you're competition for one of the jobs then? :)
Well, the psychometric tests have already been done! The online assessment incorporates a number of tests - lasting about 2 hours. If you 'pass', then you are through to the next stage, but still no guarantee of an interview.
A lot of people have already done psychometric tests. This was part of the application process. Have 50,000 people passed these? Or just attempt these? Or is it 50,000 specific applications?!
Excellent. That's 50,000 tedious psychometric tests to hand out then
