All Out Productions has produced a new documentary for BBC Radio 2 telling the story of a meeting between Elvis and President Richard Nixon.
Letter to the President
When the King met the President is an hour-long special, narrated by Hollywood actor, Martin Sheen.
Elvis Presley arrived at the White House on December 21st, 1970 with 2 body guards and a letter for Nixon, in which he asked to be made a “Federal Agent at Large” so he could communicate with and report on what he felt were harmful factions threatening America.
Within hours of his arrival, he was up in the Oval Office, shaking hands with the President - a photo which has become one of the most famous and most requested in the American national archives.
Nixon & Elvis
Jo Meek has produced the documentary, in which she hears from Elvis' aide Jerry Schilling and the 2 Nixon staff members who made the meeting happen.
