Bauer Media has appointed the Manchester office of Euro RSCG Biss Lancaster to handle PR across Bauer Media's Big City Network radio stations in England.  The agency will also be working as the lead agency alongside local PR agencies for the Network’s Scottish and Irish stations.

Six agencies pitched for the lead contract. Bauer declined to name the other agencies involved. Bauer Media commands circa 25% of the UK’s commercial radio market and across the North its radio franchises are typically market leaders.  In the North West, Bauer stations include radio City, Rock FM and Key 103. In total there are 20 stations in the Big City Network attracting around 5m listeners a week.

The agency’s team will led by Melissa Hinds and Euro will be expected to provide strategic planning and communications support as well as handling station, network, trade, and corporate projects.

Catherine Gort , Big City Network's head of marketing & communications, said: "We liked Biss Lancaster's approach, understanding of the region and our industry and the fact that they shared our vision of creating a real strategic focus to drive the business forward.
"We want to make the news, not simply report it, by the development of big communications ideas to get cut through and by originating strong creative platforms to engage all our audiences.”

The account win sees a nostalgic return to Key 103 for Biss Lancaster's Joint MD, Brian Beech, who helped launched the station when he was head of press and promotions at sister station Piccadilly Radio “many, many years ago.”

"I had some great years in radio" Beech added "and it's nice to be involved again, especially with such a vibrant brand. There's even a couple of people still there who used to work with me, John Pickford and Paul Lockitt, so I'm looking forward to catching up with them."
