The BBC has decided to overhaul the London-centric commissioning process, by adding new roles in the nations, but not the regions.
Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland will each get a new commissioning executive - at least five of them, split across the three centres, which sounds painful. There are two implications of this for the north west. The first is that Manchester-based commissioning executive, Cheryl Taylor will now also be responsible for Scotland. This extra responsibility could invigorate comedy, or mean that NW shows lose out to Scottish ones. The other is that the new Glasgow-based entertainment commissioner is likely to oversee the north of England as well as Scotland. The change comes from chief operating office, Caroline Thomson and it’s expected to go ahead within the next few months. Something to add? Then leave a comment below or email us now.
