The new show has been written by Cash and Phil Mealey and Cash will direct the comedy.

Cash and Mealey’s new production company Jellylegs will produce the show. The pair wrote the BBC Two comedy Early Doors and the Bafta award winning Royle Family - Queen of Sheba special for BBC One.

"With the combined talents of Craig Cash, Phil Mealey and Steve Coogan, Sunshine is a significant comedy drama from the north for BBC One" said Lumsden.

Coogan will play the part of Bing, a family man with a gambling addiction.

Bernard Hill (Boys from the Black Stuff and King Theoden in the Lord of the Rings) will play Bing's father George.

Sunshine producer John Rushton added: "I am delighted that Jellylegs brings a new production to the North West, using the talents and experience that the region has to offer as well as featuring many well liked and respected faces from entertainment and drama."

They were filming in Heald Green last week. I think Peter Kay was initially going to star in it, I think Steve Coogan has replaced him.
