The BBC has announced training partnerships with ITV and Channel 4 as it opens up its College of Journalism website to the public.
College of Journalism The site, which has been available for staff to use for the last 3 years, will be free to UK residents - a subscription will need to be paid to access it overseas.
Independents and in-house producers outside of London will be given access to ideas development and pitching workshops to increase the corporation’s Out of London production commissions.
"The quality of the BBC's training across journalism, production, technical and leadership skills is rightly renowned across the world. These partnerships will open up our training resources to the industry in new ways as never before. We'll look for further opportunities to do this wherever we can,” explained BBC Academy director, Anne Morrison.
"Our aim is to create a world-class organisation that benefits all BBC staff and, through partnerships, helps support the wider industry. These major new agreements mark a major step towards our long-term ambitions."
It will also be joining up with Channel 4 to create Diversity 2010, a series of workshops and events over a year to help organisations embrace diversity.
With ITV it will be looking at improving employability for people with disabilities through placements and sharing best practice.
Other initiatives see the corporation sharing its Multiplatform Foundation. This means members of Bectu, Pact and the Indie Training Fund will be able to access development exercises, workshops and mentoring to improve their understanding of what’s needed to make multiplatform productions.
