In a surprise move the managing director of the MediaCityUK development Brian Greasley has stepped down from the position he was appointed to late last year.

Greasley, formerly of Genie Internet and I-Play, is now, according to a statement from Paul Newman, the head of communications for MediaCity, “looking forward to seeking new challenges.”

Greasley’s responsibilities will be taken over in the interim by Andrew Simpson, group managing director of Peel Holdings.

He commented in the same statement: “Over the last 12 months, Brian has done a first class job in setting out the vision for MediaCityUK and establishing a high-quality operational team.

“I would like to thank Brian personally for all his efforts and wish him well for the future.”

“We will be seeking a replacement for Brian in due course who will focus on the next phase of the project, as well as implementing the ongoing programme of strengthening the MediaCityUK team.”

The move has come as a surprise as Greasley was appointed with the remit of taking Mediacity forward to the BBC’s arrival in 2011 and developing its proposition for other potential tenants.

at the recent (ish) party he hosted, his speech was almost as (unintentionally) funny as comedian John Bishop's routine

I once had the most unusual job interview experiences in my life with Mr Greasley at MediaCityUK. He sent email messages on his Blackberry throughout.
