‘Personalities’ from stage and screen are expected to attend this evening’s Clapperboard awards ceremony at the Lowry in Salford. The awards celebrate the achievements of young people from across the North West.
The host of this year’s awards is Samantha Siddall who plays Mandy Maguire in Shameless. Five short films have been selected for the big night. The films have been made by young people between the ages of 12 to19 from Oldham, Salford and Knowsley.
The films’ subject material relate to gun, knife and gang culture. Clapperboard’s partners and sponsors include a variety of public and private bodies and companies with an interest in deprivation and social issues and/or broadcasting.
Paul Abbott, the creator Shameless said: "There's a wealth of creative young talent in this region as you will see when watching these films.
“Clapperboard is a unique project where young people come up with ideas to tackle issues that affect them and their communities. They then take control of the whole project from script to screen with the guidance of industry professionals. The awards ceremony is a celebration of their work and a great opportunity to integrate young people from Merseyside and Greater Manchester. Once again, this year's films are outstanding and being a judge wasn't an easy task.”
Scriptwriters Chris Green, Louis Loizou, Parvez Quadir, James McMartin and Sophia Rashid worked with the young filmmakers to help develop their ideas with production companies Bakermedia and Handstand Productions leading the production process.
The judging panel consisted of Paul Abbott, Craig Cash (Royle Family, Early Doors) and Nicola Schindler (Red Productions).
A number of presenters and TV stars from Hollyoaks, Corrie, Shameless and elsewhere are expected at the do including Maxine Peake, Ciaran Griffiths, Jennifer Metcalf, Thomas Hudson and Rebecca Atkinson.
