City Talk and Ampersand grab their balls for outdoor activity | Print |  Email to a friend

Ampersand, the Liverpool-based agency behind the launch of City Talk 105.9, has released the latest in its controversial creative canon for the Bauer-owned station.
Ampersand, the Liverpool-based agency behind the launch of City Talk 105.9, has released the latest in its controversial creative canon for the Bauer-owned station.

The new campaign centres on ex-football greats holding their balls.

Ampersand, which also has a close working relationship with Everton FC, has crafted the pictured outdoor advertising campaign to promote City Talk’s weeknight and weekend sports shows.

These feature local legends Graeme Sharp, John Aldridge and Ian St John, who also appear as the stars of the campaign enquiring “we’ve got balls… have you?”

The new four week long activity will be seen on poster sites in the vicinity of Goodison Park and Anfield, as well as on bus sides across the city.

In addition the station will also be looking to raise awareness of its sports programming with a new e-flyer campaign to target listeners.

To date Ampersand has chosen to use an approach that, dependent on your viewpoint, could be regarded as either eye-catching or blatantly provocative.

Its launch campaigns featured Simon O’Brien’s famous on air outburst and Pete Price opining “racism is alive and well in Liverpool.”

or predictable, or hackneyed...

"have you got balls" - these two clearly deserve each other

This reminds me of the News On Sunday's slogan (devised by some London whizzkids) : No Tits But A Lot of Balls. This slogan infuriated the local wimmin on the leftwing rag. Later, when the founders were sacked, the in-house solgan became: No Balls But A Lot Of Tits. Could this be the case here?

a case of a) rising assets, b) holding their own or c) crude bad taste mediocre marketing

Ampersand must think the Scousers are a bit unsophisticated. And are they sugesting that if you don't listen to the station you must be in some way challenged in the trouser department?

Same old bland tosh by Ampersand if you ask me, when will Liverpool get a decent ad agency no wonder everyone goes to Manchester!

Erm, excuse me.
My friends at Balance in Liverpool have done some wonderful work for some big brands... I'm sure there are others.
So - pipe down!

I think the campaign is simple and gets the message across. It certainly does its job as its got all you lot talking - and isn't that the aim of the campaign- to stimulate talk and debate? I agree with Claire - pipe down manchester!
