Congestion charge campaigners to battle it out on Channel M | Print |  Email to a friend
Monday, 24 November 2008
Channel M is potentially risking a confrontation of Jerry Springer proportions when it broadcasts a live debate between pro and anti Congestion Charge campaigners this Wednesday.

Presenter Andy Crane will be the man charged with maintaining an air of decorum at the event, as an audience of 80 gather in Channel M’s studios to put questions to both sides.

In the ‘no’ camp Susan Williams, the Conservative leader of Trafford Council, will team up Labour's Graham Stringer, the MP for Blackley, to duke it out against Sir Richard Leese, the leader of Manchester Council, and Lis Phelan, chairman of the official `yes' campaign.

The debate has been timed by station bosses to give an insight into the issues at stake in the Greater Manchester referendum, to be held early next month, and will also receive coverage in the MEN.

Showing live between 6 and 8pm, viewers are also being encouraged to take part by texting into the show on "News 88821" or sending e-mails to newsdesk@channelm.co.uk.

I find some of the Yes campaign posters rather manipulative. Bit arrogant to try to con the public like that. Hopefully the great unwashed of m/cr will see through it.

Bit arrogant of you to say 'the great unwashed of m/cr.'

Anyway, it's not the yes campaign that gets me but the blanket no campaigns every time I visit the Trafford Centre. Peel (and Kellogg's etc) are trying their best to scare their visitors/employees/customers into the no camp.

That sort of propaganda from big businesses that are scared of the effect on their bottom line is tasteless and utterly shameful.

Why? They are protecting their bottom line like most businesses. That's what lots of advertising aims to do if you think about it.
