Coronation Street cast 'banned' from using Twitter, social media

The Sunday Mirror yesterday revealed that the cast members of Coronation Street had received a letter saying that bosses would 'prefer it' if they didn't comment on their working lives on social media websites.

It warned of the potential of disciplinary action they might face for inappropriate use and noted "please consider the set a mobile and tweet-free zone."

Series producer Phil Collinson came out recently to stress that he would do 'everything' possible to prevent details of the upcoming 'tram crash' plot from leaking into the public domain.

The letter is quoted in the paper as stating: "Please consider the set a mobile and tweet-free zone.

"We realise that many of you use social media and networking sites and may wish to comment on your working lives - but we would prefer it if you didn't. Remember that any images can be accessed by the public.

"Disciplinary action may be taken against anyone who posts inappropriate pictures of yourself or any other members of the cast or anything that would portray The Street in a bad light."

Coronation Street's tram crash storyline, penned to coincide with the 50th anniversary of the soap, is said to involve the deaths of several cast members. No one, including the cast, is currently aware of who these characters will be.
