Executives at Coronation Street have denied that they are ‘cashing in’ on the recent media frenzy that has enveloped Andrew Sachs, after reports emerged in the press that they are looking to cast the actor in the popular soap.
Sachs, as everyone in the UK will surely now be aware, was at the epicentre of the storm that Russell Brand and Jonathan Ross unwittingly unleashed on BBC Radio 2. The fall out from this incident has been widespread and, seemingly, rumbles on. Raising Sachs profile? Now it emerges that Sachs could be set for a role in the Street playing the part of Norris Cole's brother. However, a spokesperson for the show yesterday claimed that this idea has been in development for some time and is not a reaction to the actor’s suddenly enhanced celebrity status. They stated: "We first started working on a possible character for Andrew Sachs six months ago after learning that he was interested in joining the show. “This was brought to our attention by Malcolm Hebden who plays Norris Cole. "We have been in discussions with Andrew about the proposed storyline which would be seen on screen some time next year." They concluded: "There is no connection whatsoever between (this and) the Russell Brand and Jonathan Ross saga." Something to add? Then leave a comment below or email us now.
