Made in Manchester is getting set to take the wraps off the third instalment in the new radio drama initiative it is pioneering alongside national newspaper The Independent.
Following on from its Alan Turing and Oscar Wilde plays, released exclusively through The Independent's website, the firm is releasing Suzie Pugh and a Monster Too Binns on board with MIM This childrens show stars Coronation Street regular Vicky Binns, Molly in the popular soap, as the titular Pugh and goes live on www.independent.co.uk/drama from 19 December. It has been written by Phil Collinge and also features Steve Murphy (Life on Mars/Shameless/The Street) as Smert, the monster. Collinge said of the project: “I’m really pleased that Made in Manchester has been able to bring this story to The Independent for this Christmas. “In this ever changing world, telling exciting stories for children has never gone out of fashion, and in Suzie Pugh and a Monster Too we’ve got the best of both worlds as Vicky Binns and Steve Murphy mix their storytelling skills with their acting prowess to bring us a magical and fun packed children's tale for Christmas." He continued: “I really hope that people like Suzie Pugh, and that we can take her on some more adventures. I think it’s time for a new children’s hero, and why shouldn’t that hero be an ordinary girl from the north of England?” The show was directed by Mike Heath and produced by Ashley Byrne and Iain Mackness. It is a Made in Manchester and Dark Smile Production co-production for The Independent. www.madeinmanchester.tv Something to add? Then leave a comment below or email us now.
