North West Vision + Media’s June crew of the month is Damyan Filmworks of Stockport. The company was founded by director/writer Dan Turner who has just returned from Cannes where he has been touting around his third and latest short film, Second Guest.
A still from Second Guest “It’s been hard work getting this far but it’s all been worth it and we now hope to move Damyan Filmworks onwards and upwards. I’m immensely proud of the shorts we’ve produced and the success they’re enjoying” said Turner. Turner founded Damyan in London nine years ago but relocated up to Stockport four years ago. Its first short film 4:37 was premiered at the Manhattan Short Film Festival in 2003 and it’s claimed Turner’s film was one of the Festival highlights.
Its second short film, Connecting, was released in 2005 and was subsequently awarded the runner up prize in the ‘Best Film from the North’ category at the Kinofilm Festival in 2006. Although Turner is keen to move into full length features, he remains a big fan of shorts.
“Technology in the last 10 years has developed so much that now people can make their own shorts with good quality equipment, it’s a lot more accessible and people can be more independent in how they approach a career in the industry” he said.
