Made in Manchester has produced a documentary about the suffragettes for BBC Radio 4.
Narrated by historian Dan Snow, the hour-long show will feature never-before-broadcast audio of suffragettes speaking about their experiences at the turn of the 20th Century.
The indie has worked alongside the Women’s Library and London Metropolitan University to compile the programme, which centres around interviews conducted by Oxford historian, Sir Brian Harrison between 1974 and 1981.
Many of those speaking were in their 80s and 90s at the time and gave graphic details of being force-fed and drugged whilst on hunger strike in prison.
“This archive is amazing as all these women lived quite extraordinary lives. It’s a credit to Sir Brian Harrison that he was able to glean so much from them,” said Made in Manchester’s Ashley Byrne, who also explained that the documentary had taken 4 years to get off the ground.
Snow was specifically chosen for the series, because it was his great, great grandfather, the Liberal PM, David Lloyd George who eventually granted votes for women after the First World War.
Archive on 4 - The Lost World of the Suffragettes - airs from 8pm until 9pm on BBC Radio 4 this Saturday, 11th February 2012

So this much anticipated programme "centres AROUND interviews" Hmm ... I think not. Maybe it centres ON interviews . . .
