A documentary drama about the life of footballing legend Dixie Dean has been given a funding boost and welcomed Everton chairman Bill Kenwright onboard as an executive producer.
The film is being made by Toxteth-based production company Tabacula and aims to document the life of Dean - from his upbringing on the cobbled streets of Birkenhead, through to his status as sporting icon and one of football’s enduring all time greats. Tabacula has been boosted in its ambitions by receiving a funding purse of £300,000 – to invest in new equipment – from the Merseyside Special Investment Fund’s Small Firms Fund and, importantly, seemingly being bestowed with the full support of EFC. So far the company has interviewed a host of personalities connected to the club and the player himself, while also announcing last weekend that Kenwright has agreed to invest in the production and is now in place as an executive producer. The company screened an extended trailer of their work in progress to the Everton Shareholders on the evening of 5 April and, according to David Prentice in the Echo, “(it was) a moving trailer which left some of the audience in tears.” You can read more about the production at the company’s blog.
