Northwest Vision and Media (NWVM) is offering funding of £66,000 to help encourage innovation and risk taking among the region’s film makers with the extension of two funding programmes: Digital Shorts and Digital Plus.
The Digital Shorts programme will be run again this year – the sixth year of the initiative. Four filmmaking teams are being offered funding of up to £12,000 per team to make their next short movie as part of the Digital Shorts initiative. The initiative is aimed at both existing and aspiring film makers.
Bingham Digital Plus, which is aimed at more experienced film directors who are keen to develop new skills, was launched last year and once again £18,000 will be offered to the winning submission.
Helen Bingham, head of production development at NWVM said: “Although this is only the second time we’ve been able to offer the Digital Plus scheme, we have been running the Digital Short initiative for the past five years and filmmakers have been eagerly awaiting the launch of the 2007 programme. “We’re looking for filmmakers with a new approach to the genre and storytelling. Whether it’s drama, documentary or animation, we want to see inventive, creative filmmaking at its very best.”
Boot Polish Digital Plus is aimed previous recipients of Digital Shorts funding, of whom there have been between 40 to 50 companies over the past five years.
The recipient of the first Digital Plus award last year, Manchester’s Aneel Ahmad, has just had his short film, Boot Polish, selected for the Short Film Awards at the bfm International Film Festival to be held in London from 7 to 14 September.
There are believed to be over 600 film makers and companies spread across the North West.
