Manchester-based gay, lesbian, bi and transsexual radio station Gaydio is due to broadcast a 28 day long trial in the city during August, as it continues to await the outcome of its application to Ofcom for a permanent licence.
Gaydio’s fourth broadcast is said to be “the biggest and boldest to date”, aiming to bring listeners a range of programming that will include the live final of Mr Gay UK and station’s very own ‘Gaydio holiday’ in Gran Canaria. The broadcast is scheduled to begin transmission at 7am on 11 August and will be centred around catering for the needs and interests of Manchester’s thriving ‘gay village’ community. Gaydio is currently waiting to hear back from Ofcom after submitting an application for a full time community licence in November last year. It appears as though a shortage of available frequencies in the area has delayed this process, although it has not diminished Gaydio’s ambition to commence broadcasting. If it succeeds in achieving its aims Gaydio will be the only FM radio station exclusively for the LGBT audience in the UK. The station is currently looking for volunteers to help with the summer broadcast. http://www.gaydio.co.uk/ Something to add? Then leave a comment below or email us now.
