GMG Radio has appointed Mark Matthews, previously North West managing director of The Local Radio Company, in a new role as group head of presentation.
Mathews Matthews, based in Manchester, will provide support for GMG’s 13 Real, Smooth, Century FM and Rock Radio stations across the UK, working with local programme directors on content and presentation matters.
He also has the launch of two new stations on his hands - Smooth Radio in the north east and Rock Radio in Manchester next year.
At The Local Radio Company he had programming and revenue responsibility for four stations. Prior to TLRC he spent 10 years with EMAP as a programme controller for a number of stations including Red Rose, Viking and London’s Kiss 100.
He will report to John Simons together with other newly created roles for group head of music and group head of news, jobs held respectively by Terry Underhill and James Rea.
John Simons said: "Mark has a great radio pedigree as a presenter, programmer and a general manager. He has a great understanding of what the listener wants and will be a fabulous addition to the team."
Mark Matthews said: “These days GMG Radio is the company that everyone wants to work for and it’s fantastic to be joining the team. Smooth, Real, Rock and Century are four great radio brands and I can’t wait to get stuck in.”
