As part of its ongoing £1m programme funding initiative, GMG Radio is looking to recruit more regional production firms to bring what it is heralding as “a new burst of innovation and creativity” to the commercial airwaves.
GMG: on the frontline for new comms GMG announced the fund last year and followed through on its promise by commissioning programmes such as ‘Blogs from the Bunkers’, ‘Rolling River of Rock’ and ‘Banned.’Of the shows that have aired so far, independent research carried out by QuestionAir has shown positive audience reactions, with 88% of respondents saying they enjoyed the documentaries, rating them as ‘good’, and 79% noting that were likely to tune in to listen to similar programmes in the future. This reaction – and the remaining Scott Trust funding – has now led to GMG calling for production firms to again pitch ideas for broadcast across the firm’s network of 13 Smooth, Real, Century and Rock Radio stations. It is looking to start airing the commissions in January. GMG Radio Group programme director, John Simons, commented: “The response from listeners to the wide array of programmes we have brought to the commercial airwaves has been overwhelmingly positive, and demonstrates that our audiences enjoy new and unexpected content. “So I am delighted to announce that we will be investing further in new documentaries, commissioning more programmes for broadcast early next year.”
