GMG Radio launches £1m push with new Clear TV ads | Print |  Email to a friend
Wednesday, 16 April 2008
Yesterday saw the launch of a new suite of ads from GMG Radio, as it looks to push its Century brand in the North West and North East and Real Radio in Wales.

The campaign, which centres on the Duran Duran hit Rio and the ‘Music you just have to sing along to’ strap-line, was produced by Manchester’s Clear Marketing.

Yesterday saw the launch of a new suite of ads from GMG Radio, as it looks to push its Century brand in the North West and North East and Real Radio in Wales.
GMG: messing around in boats
It mimics the video for the 80’s pop classic by showing a couple singing along to the track while on a canal barge – a slight change of scenery to the sun-drenched yacht that Simon Le Bon et al used in the original Rio video.

GMG claims that the feel good nature of the advertising “sums up the essence of the five station Real & Century Network.”

Clear’s three week long TV push is said to be the start of a £1m marketing drive by GMG over the coming year, as it looks to appeal to local audiences in the increasingly competitive radio sector.

Campaigns for Real Radio Yorkshire and Scotland are also set to be unleashed in the coming weeks, with creative similarly produced by Clear.

Speaking about the plans, GMG Radio Group marketing manager Helen Dickinson said: “We will be spending a significant sum on marketing our Real Century Network over the coming year to encourage new listeners to tune-in and this first burst of activity kicks off what will be a busy year for our stations in their regions.”

Clear handles all off the marketing for GMG Radio, with the exception of its Smooth brand, which recently moved to London’s Dye Holloway Murray. Mediacom is in charge of the media task.
