First it was Channel M's Andy Crane, now BBC North West Tonight's Gordon Burns has become a member of the Twitterati as the region’s television news teams take to social media.
The newsreader has quietly been Tweeting away for a few weeks and has built up a following of more than 1,200 - somewhat short of Crane - but as we all know it’s not about quantity, but quality, so How-Do asked a couple of Twitter experts how well he was doing:
Top Twitterer
“By not following he's not showing an interest in what others have to say but by the look of it, he's getting so many replies that he's fully engaged. Maybe no one has suggested he should follow people he finds interesting,” said Simon Wharton,PushOn.
Freelance public relations and social media consultant Katie Moffat agreed:
“You can see how his account has evolved. He started by just talking, but recently he’s become really conversational, it’s like a cross between an official and a personal account.”
She added that he should start following people of interest and it would help if he linked to stories he liked.
In the interests of balance, we should say that Granada Reports does have at least one Twittering reporter and that an official account will be in place soon.
So, stand by for Tweets to join text and email requests in local news reports soon....
