Granada’s Hall takes to world stage | Print |  Email to a friend

Granada’s Hall takes to world stage
Granada Reports’ viewers will have noticed a familiar face presenting this year’s Uefa Cup draw as sports' reporter Chris Hall took centre stage at the event.

Broadcasting to a world-wide audience from Monaco is a far cry from the day job.

How-Do caught up with him after the biggest week of his career, firstly finding out how it all happened.

"When the Uefa Cup Final took place in Manchester, they approached Manchester City Council for someone to be master of ceremonies at a small event. They spoke to head of regional affairs Jane Luca, who in turn spoke to my head of news, Richard Frediani," explained Hall.

Uefa Draw
Two events later and Uefa asked Chris to present the Uefa draw.

"Just before it started, I asked if they knew the viewing figures. They told me it went around the world, which made me wish I hadn’t said anything.

"As I was about to go on I was terrified. There was a little step up to the podium and I just kept saying to myself, 'don’t trip up.'"

There are some benefits though:

"I arrived in Nice and there was a man with a board saying 'helicopter for Hall' and they flew me to Monaco where there was a car waiting to take me to the hotel."

After partying with Prince Albert of Monaco and watching the European Super Cup, he’s arrived back in Manchester.

"Everyone at Granada’s been really supportive, particularly Fredi (Richard Frediani). I’ve been told the whole office were watching the draw and cheered when I came on."

It’s a long way from where he started at the Crewe and Nantwich Guardian and what’s more Uefa have asked him back next year.
