Cancer is often an issue that young people overlook, despite the grave consequences if symptoms go unchecked. However, a Granada documentary, airing this Friday at 8pm, will seek to bring the subject out into the open, and McCann Erickson has secured an important role in proceedings.
Cancer beater Christie The show, Granada Edition, follows three young people who have all been treated for cancer at Christie Hospital as they campaign to raise awareness of the disease among their peers and the NHS.During the programme the trio - Jonny Cunliffe, Jen Bayley and Matt Hughes – pay a visit to McCann’s Bonis Hall base to seek advice from the agency on how they can drive teenage cancer higher up the public health agenda. Neil Lancaster, McCann’s creative director, helps them put together potential poster ideas to take to organisations across Greater Manchester in a bid to secure backing for their campaign. Lancaster was clearly touched by his involvement, and commented: “Their optimism and desire to spread the message about teenage cancer is truly inspiring and it has been a real pleasure to have given them some help and input. “They had some outstanding ideas and did not need that much help. It was more a case of showing them how to craft an idea and how to make it work across different channels.” Since filming the three have apparently scored some degree of success, attracting interest from both NHS North West and the MEN Arena. The show will be fronted by Gemma Atkinson and was produced and directed by How-Do’s very own Stephen Chapman. McCanns has a long history of working with the NHS and particularly Christie Hospital.
