Lime Picture’s Hollyoaks has capped a year of bumper ratings and critical success with an award that celebrates the drama’s sensitive handling of a plotline relating to anorexia.
The show secured the gong at the Mental Health Media Awards, coming through to win the ‘Soaps & Continual Drama’ category. It claimed the accolade for Emma Rigby’s portrayal of a harrowing battle with anorexia, which also saw her pick up the coveted ‘Best Actress Award’ at this year’s British Soap Awards. Tony Wood, Hollyoaks executive producer and Lime’s creative director, appeared suitably proud of the achievement, noting: “Emma Rigby's performance as Hannah struggling with anorexia touched the lives of so many people in the Hollyoaks audience; to say nothing of the tears it induced at the awards ceremony. “This is a significant moment in the maturing of our programme. All at Lime Pictures are deeply proud of Hollyoaks.” The Lime team worked with support organization B-eat to ensure that the storyline and portrayal was as accurate as possible. www.limepictures.com www.b-eat.co.uk Something to add?
