Channel M’s property show Homesearch celebrated its centenary episode this week with a one-off programme reviewing the New Broughton development in Salford.
The show, hosted by Sian Astley, has been on small screens around Manchester for the last two years, visiting and discussing the latest property developments in the city.
Its 100th showing saw it investigating the New Broughton project to see how it’s meeting the needs of local people and maintaining and developing the area’s strong sense of community.
Hannah Loughlin, an assistant producer at Channel M, told How-Do there were many highlights to look back on so far. She noted: “(They include) the MEN’s homes editor, Jill Burdett, interviewing architect Ian Simpson at the top of his glass giant, Beetham Tower. And, in the ambitious light of the New Broughton scheme, Jill also contributed to a nostalgic look back at Lower Broughton’s chequered history.
“Interiors expert Sian Astley was quick to head down to The Design Initiative’s Make Me event to promote local designers, and willingly shared her expert developer advice and novel ideas on recycling and using sustainable resources.

“Phil Griffin’s series on the regeneration of Manchester since the IRA Bomb was a particular success. His passionate commentary revealed just how pioneering our city architecture is and how rich the city's skyline has become.”
Loughlin added that the future for the programme looked “rosy”, with plans to shoot the programme in overseas locations together with a ‘Homesearch Overseas Special Edition’ set to be broadcast in advance on 17 March.
