How-Do (and everyone else) scores own goal with Rooney and Hovis partnership | Print |  Email to a friend

How-Do thought the ball was in the back of the net when we ran a story on young Wayne Rooney getting signed up to star in the latest Hovis ad last Friday… and in a way we were right. It’s just a shame it was our own net.

Calm down Wayne... we're sorry
It emerged yesterday that the Rooney/Hovis story was wider of the mark than a Diana Ross penalty, after it appears that there was a mix-up between the filming of a Fifa ad in Manchester and the new Hovis work in Liverpool.

How-Do (and, in our defence, a gaggle of tabloids, trade mags and gossip sites) ran the piece last week speculating that the Manchester United striker would be starring in the nostalgic ad and pocketing a cool £150k.

However, the ad, created by Miles Calcraft Briginshaw Duffy, will actually feature dogs and horses and is set to be a celebration of British history.

How-Do would like to apologise for any confusion on this matter and assure Mr Rooney that if he gives us all his marketing related news stories as exclusives in the future we will never, ever get anything about him wrong again.

Probably.

Featuring dogs and horses instead of Wayne Rooney? Who took the decision to go upmarket?

It was worth getting wrong just to see that clip of Diana Ross again. Brilliant, just brilliant.

"speculating that the Manchester United striker would be staring in the nostalgic ad"

What would he have been staring at?
:)
(Ed - oohh, you're picky Jay! Corrected now, cheers.)

do we expect similar mix ups at MUFC and if Ronaldo goes can we expect to see a strike combo comprising a dog and a horse?
