As part of a move to become a national broadcasting proposition, Insight Radio, the RNIB’s station for blind and partially sighted people, is planning to set up a new satellite studio in Manchester.
Insight currently has a FM licence for the Glasgow area and is also available on Sky 0188, Freesat 777 and online. In a move to connect to local-national audiences and feed in regional programming, the station has now announced that it is set to open new facilities in Manchester, Edinburgh, Newcastle, Birmingham, London and Cardiff. The Edinburgh, London and Cardiff operations will be the first to open their doors, coming online within the next two months. Ross Macfadyen, RNIB’s head of radio, commented: "RNIB is investing money in radio as it regards radio as a must-have for its core target audience. “Blind and partially sighted people across the UK are able to access information, news, books, newspapers and magazines which are featured on air, as well as a range of other programming strands which are produced and presented by blind and partially sighted presenters 24 hours a day." Insight is Europe’s first radio station catering for a blind and partially sighted audience. www.insightradio.co.uk Something to add? Then leave a comment below or email us now.
