ITV's on-off off-on move from its regional Quay Street base to Peel Media's MediaCityUK appears to have been re-energised, with reports suggesting that the broadcaster could be set to take the remaining space at Phase One of the Salford Quays development.
How-Do first began reporting on ITV's move across town in 2007, suggesting that a deal was originally close to being completed at the tail end of that year. Finally moving on? However, protracted negotiations, the uncertainty in the financial market and disagreements between the two parties had put the move on ice, before Archie Norman's appointment as ITV chairman at the start of the year again re-ignited talks.Rumours that have been circulating over the past weeks have now been fanned by a report in Crain's this morning claiming that talks on a deal have entered their final stages. Peel Media has since informed How-Do that it will not be making an official comment on the matter, but did state that Crain's suggestion that Phase One would now be full was "entirely inaccurate." A move would mean the much-discussed relocation of the iconic Coronation Street set to a site next to the Imperial War Museum, as well as the small matter of around 100,000 sq ft of space - going a long way to completing the development's much-heralded first phase. This could explain the move by Peel last week, when it made business development director Jason Legget redundant. Legget had originally been charged with finding tenants for the first phase of MediaCityUK, which is due for completion next year. UPDATE: An ITV spokesman has issued the following to How-Do: “ITV has not agreed a deal to move to Media City. We are continuing to examine two options regarding ITV’s base in the North West.” Something to add? Then leave a comment below or email us now.
