How-Do has been shown a list of jobs that regional news and features staff are expected to apply for in the new look regional departments.
The controversial money-saving plans have called "disastrous" by Unions which have set up a site to draw attention to the plight of technical staff and journalists.
In addition to cutting the number of regions from 17 to 9 by merging a number of local networks, there are expected to be a number of job cuts.
We have been shown a list entitled "proposed jobs" that has been sent out to staff:
Assistant Programme Editor Camera Operator Correspondent Director Features Editor Media Coordinator News Editor Newsroom Journalist Planning Editor Political Correspondent Programme Editor Programme Presenter Reporter Technical Operator Technical Support Engineer Weather Presenter
Interestingly there is no mention of craft editors, who put some of the more complicated features together.
However, the job description for "camera operator" now includes an expectation to edit, as does the technical operator’s.
While there is no specific mention of a Video Journalist role, which has been muted for many years, journalists and reporters are expected to "be pro-active in finding ways to sustain a multi-skilled approach to broadcast journalism," which keeps that door open.
Since publication, How-Do has learnt that these job descriptions are a work-in-progress, with a number of positions - including graphics and craft editors still being worked on.We have been assured that these roles will exist as distinct jobs in the new look Granada team.
