Negotiations have broken down between ITV and the Peel Group - the owners of MediaCity UK.
It means ITV looks set to remain at its current Quay Street base.
Staying put "Negotiations with the Peel Group over the possible move of ITV's Manchester operation to MediaCity in Salford were terminated by ITV this week after the developer dramatically scaled back its financial commitment to the ITV element of the project," read an ITV statement."As a result we will remain at our Quay Street base for the foreseeable future."
It’s a decision that’s been years in the making. The broadcaster had been debating whether to relocate to MediaCity, stay in the current Quay Street building or move into the Bonded Warehouse in the former Studio Tours complex. A spokesperson told us there would be no comment from the Peel Group and MediaCity UK. ITV’s Quay Street studio complex is home not only to Coronation Street and Granada Reports, but many BBC shows including Question of Sport and University Challenge. Channel 4’s Countdown will be heading there too, with the closure of the Leeds site. The BBC will be the main tenant in MediaCity, moving a number of departments including sport, children's and Radio 5 Live there. Something to add? Then leave a comment below or email us now.
