Interesting developments in the West of How-Do’s region as the battle for the ITV Wales news pilot hots up.
Clive Jones Four bids are now on the table, including UTV, which has joined up with Flintshire news publisher, NWN Media, Trinity Mirror and the Llanelli-based indie, Tinopolis.
The latest, however, is a team led by Clive Jones OBE, the former ITV news and regions boss, and current chairman of GMTV.
The academically entitled consortium Taliesin News (a 6th century poet according to Google) is backed by ITN and newspaper groups Northcliffe Media, Newsquest and Tindle.
It’s also supported by current ITV Wales staff, including its head of news and programming, Phil Henfry.
"Taliesin News brings together an unrivalled team of partners to create a local news powerhouse for the nation," said Jones.
"By harnessing this newsgathering and production network, we will ensure Wales has a news service which rivals the best of what is available around the world today."
Other members of the Taliesin consortium are Cardiff indie Boomerang and Cardiff Unviersity’s School of Journalism, Media & Cultural Studies.
Successful bidders will be announced by the Department of Culture, Media and Sport early next year. Something to add? Then leave a comment below or email us now.
