Independent production house, Made in Manchester (MIM), has aired its first work for the World Service, as initially revealed on How-Do: ‘Jah Wobble’s Mystical Musical Tour’.
MIM was commissioned by the Beeb to produce a special two part series about the legendary British musician, singer, poet and composer Jah Wobble.
Wobble was born as plain John Wardle. His name change allegedly derived from Sid Vicious being unable to pronounce his name correctly when drunk...
Executive producer Andrew Graystone said: “From the earliest archaeological records to the most vibrant living traditions today, there is evidence of the power of sound to calm the soul, raise the spirits or celebrate the earth. In this series Jah Wobble demonstrates exactly that.”
MIM co-founder Ashley Byrne said: “The World Service commission is a big step forward for us. Together with commissions for ITV1, Radio 4 and Radio 2, we are demonstrating that there are no no-go areas for this company.”
Other MIM productions have included ‘Another Fine Mess: 80 Years of Laurel and Hardy’ for BBC Radio 2 (presented by Norman Wisdom) and ‘From Bomb to Boom’ for ITV1 (which marked the tenth anniversary of the biggest bomb to explode on mainland Britain since World War Two)..
