Key 103 job losses not as widespread as initially feared | Print |  Email to a friend
Friday, 05 June 2009
Bauer Radio has confirmed to How-Do that, as reported on the site last month, it is to cut jobs at Manchester's Key 103 - although not as many as had initially been feared.

The firm hit the headlines on several occasions last month with its plans to change format for City Talk, cut back jobs at the station and then look to reduce staff costs across its Big City network.

Bauer Radio has confirmed to How-Do that, as reported on the site last month, it is to cut jobs at Manchester's Key 103 - although not as many as had initially been feared.
A consultation period was initiated at Key 103 and this has now concluded with with the news that two jobs have been lost.

Gary Stein, the director of the station, sent the following statement to How-Do:

"The external environment remains challenging and we, in line with many in the sector, have been investigating ways to operate more effectively to carefully manage our way through the current trading difficulties.

"With great reluctance, Key 103 has been in consultation with a small number of staff regarding a proposal to re-shape the business. This process is now complete, and it has unfortunately led to two roles here at Key 103 being made redundant.

"We are immensely proud of Key 103, and our commitment to the station and the compelling local programming it delivers remains the same as ever."

Information regarding the nature of the roles was not available at the time of writing.

no mention that they've got rid of spence and mike from key 103 late night show - the only show worth listening to on quay 103. no wonder it's going down the tubes and only has a few thousand more than galaxy now - very embarrassing

Rachel, Key's average hours and market share has increased slightly over the last 12 months and the audience has remained constant. Galaxy's audience is also about the same but they've seen a big increase in average hours. Given that Key's hours of gone up Galaxy don't appear to be taking audience from them. There's a rumour that Spence and Mike were binned because of poor RAJAR figures.

i agree with you rachel 100 %. why get rid of the best show on key 103. it kept us entertained throughout. it was known for being unique unlike all the other stations that play love songs all night. i think it was absolutly the wrong desision and i will not be surprised if audience figures have dropped, because i certainly dont listen anymore.

They should take into account the opinion of thier listeners, as many fans of the show have complained. We feel that they have neglected thier listening audience by removing the show, as it attracted a very loyal audience.
BRING BACK SPENCE AND MIKE !!!

The late night time slot has really gone down hill since the boys left, yet another senseless axing of a very popular show. we want them back. we miss thier comedy antics as they were absolutly brilliant. Spence and Mike are true legends and if they have to appear on another radio station so be it. Not only will key 103 have lost its late night listening audience but another will gain not only there own listeners but fans of The Late Night Line Up.
