Lime Pictures wins MTV ‘Alderley Edge’ commission | Print |  Email to a friend

MTV has commissioned Lime Pictures in Liverpool to produce a new eight-part series called Living on the Edge. The documentary series will trace the  lives of a group of ‘young, rich and beautiful teenagers’ based in Alderley Edge, Cheshire.

The cameras will follow the 12 teenagers as they go about their day to day lives in an attempt to portray just exactly what the rich kids of Alderley Edge get up to.

Filming has started and is due to be broadcast on MTV in October this year.

The series is a new departure for Lime as the company has not undertaken  observational documentary TV previously. The company currently produces ‘soap’ and drama programmes including Hollyoaks for Channel 4 and Grange Hill for the BBC. Drama productions have included The Outsiders and Bonkers.

Lime is no stranger to exporting its output. Hollyoaks is already sold to nine countries and The Outsiders and Hollyoaks In The City are also sold overseas. The company is also in discussion with US and other overseas broadcasters to export format development of Bonkers, a UK series Lime produced for ITV last year.

Alderley Edge, is well known in the UK as one the wealthiest parts of the country. The town has acquired a number of urban legends and myths in recent years including the (reputed) highest level of champagne consumption in the UK and is home to a number of professional footballers.

Living on the Edge films the 12 as they prepare for their exams and will follow the subsequent nights out and celebrations and commiserations.

The series producer is Fergus Colville and the series will be executive produced by Tony Wood, creative director at Lime Pictures.

Wood said: "We are delighted to be building on the enormous success of Hollyoaks by adding another programme for young adults to our portfolio. It's an excellent fit for Lime, the producer of the UK's most watched teenage drama, to be making a show for the market leader in youth broadcasting."

Lime employs 340 staff at its Liverpool base.
