The farmer who’s house is in the middle of the M62 will be the unlikely topic for a new short film made by a student from Salford University.
MA Documentary student Danny Lomax met Paul Thorp after driving past the farm, which sits between the 2 carriageways of the motorway in the Pennines. The 8 minute short called The Farmhouse will be shown at the Exposure Film Festival on Wednesday. M62 farm "I wanted to find out what it was like for someone to live in the middle of one of the country’s busiest roads, while living the life of a sheep farmer in the hills," explained Lomax. "Paul was a genuinely nice guy who’s a bit bemused by the fuss that’s made over him." The story goes that the farmhouse lies where it does because the farmer refused to move, but apparently this is just urban myth. The real reason is local geology. Another film getting a showing is Carefree by Nigel Hoar, which recently scooped at RTS award. "There’s a really useful speed-pitching session at the Festival," added Lomax. "And one of the ideas I want to sell is a longer version of The Farmhouse."
