Ashley Byrne and James Hickman, the founders of independent production company Made in Manchester, are looking to expand across the Pennines with the announcement of their latest venture, Made in Yorkshire.
Despite (or perhaps to take advantage of) the image of a contracting market in the region, as evidenced by the recent decision to mothball ITV’s Leeds base, MIM’s bosses still regard Yorkshire as a fertile hunting ground and are looking to replicate their Manchester business model. The arrival of the new firm was announced at yesterday’s Radio Production in the North Networking Conference at The Lowry, organised by Byrne, at which he stated: “We’re delighted we can announce the formation of Made in Yorkshire. I was born and grew up in South and West Yorkshire while James represented Leeds on the international sporting stage for many years (Hickman was a swimmer). “Our first Made in Yorkshire production will air in the summer. I can’t say too much about it at this point but it will involve Yorkshire talent and will be recorded on location in Yorkshire.” The new entity will also emulate MIM by offering PR and marketing services under the auspices of Sarah Gormley. Made in Manchester has established its pedigree through commissions for broadcasters such as BBC Radio 2, BBC Radio 4, 5Live and ITV1. It services marketing clients such as Finnair and Speedo. Byrne and Hicks are hoping to repeat this formula in the Yorkshire marketplace. www.madeinmanchester.tv Something to add? Then leave a comment below or email us now.
