Marquess makes presence felt at Hollyoaks, as axe drops on three | Print |  Email to a friend
Tuesday, 09 February 2010

Hollyoaks new producer Paul Marquess has seemingly wasted no time in making his presence felt on the set of the show, with the decision to write three characters out of the long-running soap at the end of their current deals.

According to reports the cast of the show have been 'bracing themselves' for cuts since his arrival at the end of last month.

All change?
Marquess has a no-nonsense reputation and oversaw initial clear-outs during his tenures with The Bill and Family Affairs.

The characters set to leave the series are Josh, Suzanne and Neville Ashworth, played by Sonny Flood, Suzanne Hall and Jim Millea.

Emma Rigby, who plays Josh's sister Hannah, leaves the show this week after five years in her role.

The Daily Star quoted a Hollyoaks insider, who commented: "He's getting rid of the dead wood - nobody is safe. This is just the beginning.

"Over the next few months expect to wave goodbye to even more faces."

Well, that proves that he still has the creativity of a two short planks.

An artist who can't work with the materials they are given and needs to source out extra ones aren't doing their job properly. Time and time again his response is to just get rid of characters and then whitewash the programme's history. What does this say? Well, maybe that he's far too egotistical to understand anything outside of himself- both through the whitewashing and the writing off of a heap of show's characters.

I mean, maybe we shouldn't be so hard on him, he was an electrician when he was "discovered", and seriously, if some electrician came to my door and asked if he could wire my house up with coax cable instead of copper wire, you know where he'd go? Maybe the CEO who discovered him was feeling charitable. Well, that's my only explanation.
