Many observers will see the move to recruit the team as one of the first tangible impacts of Paul Carroll’s arrival at Peel Media.

The former Communiqué man, one of the region’s best known PRs, jumped on board at Media City last month, with a six-month contract to help devise the communications strategy for the development going forwards.

One of his tasks, How-Do reported at the time, was believed to be deciding whether to handle the communications task in-house, or bring onboard agency help to disseminate Peel’s, and its partners, key messages.

It would appear as if that decision has already been made.

The new team will initially be made up of a head of communications and two PR executives, with more posts to be filled as the department evolves in line with the project build itself.

A statement from Media City relayed that the yet to be appointed team would be dealing with communications across a myriad of disciplines, with a brief that would also extend into attracting new tenants to join the 2000 BBC staff that will populate the Salford Quay’s site from 2011.

Media City MD Brian Greasley (pictured top) commented: “The BBC move may seem a long way off, but it’s actions stations for Media City UK marcomms at the moment.

“We have a five-year strategy in place and there’s an enormous amount to do.

"The team we’re setting up from scratch will be part of something really enormous.”
