Michael Jackson missed in Kirkby Lonsdale | Print |  Email to a friend

If you've had a radio in any position other than 'off' for the past 24 hours you'll have heard a plethora of hits from the canon of the now deceased King of Pop, Michael Jackson.

If you've had a radio in any position other than off for the past 24 hours you'll have heard a plethora of hits from the cannon of the now deceased King of Pop, Michael Jackson.
Jackson: a thriller for fans
Stations across the nation, and no doubt the globe, have been connecting with fans and assuaging/accentuating their grief by running through Jackson's extensive back catalogue of hits.

In a demonstration of how a global news event can be felt on a local level, Kirkby Lonsdale's Indigo 106.6fm has been quick off the mark to help out its listeners eager to celebrate Jackson's achievements, with a special programme that will be broadcast today at 4pm.

The show will be playing all the hits you'd expect, while also asking local people to phone in with their memories of the Peter Pan of pop.

Steven Bell will be taking the presenter's chair for the special, and he noted: "Without being opportunistic, I think it is important that stations such as ours mark the contribution that Michael made to many local people’s lives, and it is right that the community radio sector both reflects that sentiment and acknowledges the unique contribution made to popular music, which is the bedrock of any station’s existence.”

Indigo has also been quick to make the most of its social media connections and has invited reflections on its Facebook, MySpace and Twitter sites.
