Having last year enjoyed its debut into the UK’s national ranking of the top 50 production houses (at number 48) compiled by trade title Televisual, Mills Media has this year climbed 13 places to 35 on the list.
The Wirral based company, the highest placed North West company featured in Televisual’s ranking this year, has also just secured a grant from Wirral Council to help the company buy new HD equipment and editing software.
The business TV department, which was launched back in 1984.
Mills’ head of production Barrie Farrell said: Genre flexibility has always been one of the department’s strengths.
“During 2010 we worked across a varied schedule of work including a major documentary for Merseyside Criminal Justice Board and an educational DVD for Viridor Laing (Greater Manchester). Other current projects include an on-line learning project for Merseyside and Cheshire Cancer Network and an ‘eco-home’ documentary for the Plus Dane Group.
Farrell added that Mills had last year submitted an application to Invest Wirral’s Big Grant scheme arguing that new equipment could benefit not only Mills Media but also the region.
“Now following approval of the grant, we will be investing the money in a tapeless HD camera and new AVID editing software which will hopefully open up new markets for us and enhance our wet-hire options for other production houses in the local area.”
