Made in Manchester is claiming that its pioneering bid to open up new channels for radio drama, by releasing its Turing's Test production exclusively through The Independent's website, has succeeded beyond expectations.
Turing star Samual Barnett The work of fiction, based on Alan Turing's final hours after eating a cyanide laced apple, has been a constant in the I-tunes charts since its release on 24 October - consistently featuring in the top 25 in the ‘news and politics’ category, and at one point rising as high as number seven in the broader chart.MIM's creative director Ashley Byrne was looking to go beyond the traditional drama stomping grounds of Radio 3 and 4 with the project and has been pleased with the results of the pilot programme. “We’re delighted with the reception we’ve received for Turing’s Test," he commented. "It’s had some fantastic reviews and to feature in the I-tunes charts is amazing. He added: “This clearly proves that good quality audio drama can be very appealing. The power of speech, sound and our imaginations is alive and well and I’m very hopeful we’ll be premiering even more ground-breaking radio drama very soon.” The play is now being made available for an extended period and can be downloaded here www.independent.co.uk/turing www.madeinmanchester.tv Something to add?
