Nicky Campbell: 'Salford isn’t Helmand Province' | Print |  Email to a friend
Tuesday, 13 January 2009
In an interview in yesterday’s MediaGuardian, Nicky Campbell became the first of BBC Radio 5 Live’s star presenters to publicly commit to the station’s upcoming move to Salford’s MediaCityUK development.

In an interview in yesterday’s MediaGuardian, Nicky Campbell became the first of BBC Radio 5 Live’s star presenters to publicly commit to the station’s upcoming move to Salford’s MediaCityUK development.
Campbell: not an arse
Speculation has surrounded the fate of a number of big name presenters at the station who, it has been claimed, don’t have the appetite for the 2011 move away from the capital.

However, Campbell poured scorn on such beliefs, as he opined: "When people say such and such a programme can't be done in Manchester we just look like arses."

He added that the relocation of five departments to MediaCity was a “massive positive move”, joking "it's not as if I am going to Helmand province."

The vote of confidence is a boost to a station that will undoubtedly be keen to hang on to its breakfast show host, and other key anchors, ahead of the move.

Salford isn't Helman Province.
Well. er, large wastelands of Pendleton, Ordsall and Seedley are still pretty grotty, but then I suppose Beeb staff will see little of this as they flash past in their black-window chauffer-driven limos.

More bad news. I thought the economic crisis was bad, but Nicky Campbell bringing his "journalism" to Salford, what else can we have thrown at us?

So let me get this right, Nicky Campbell says something good and positive about MediaCity and all the jobs it will create for the city and you jump all over it. "Harsh North" ??? They're your words not his, so is that what YOU think of the North is it?

By the look in the photograph he doesn't look too happy about the move.
