O達rien stands down as BBC Head of Regional and Local Programmes
Tamsin O’Brien is to stand down from her role as BBC’s head of regional and local programmes (HRLP) in the North West after 2 years.

"This has been a very difficult decision for me. I feel as proud to be working for the BBC now as I did the day I arrived almost twenty years ago."

She joined the BBC straight from university. Working for a number of radio stations and then moving to television and Midlands Today.

North West Tonight
Originally from Bowdon in Cheshire, she moved back to the North West in 1994 when she joined North West Tonight and later became producer and then editor.

In April 2004 she was appointed head of BBC Yorkshire and was responsible for all BBC services across the region.

Two years later she headed back to Manchester, taking over from Leo Devine as HRLP.

"For everyone in the North West, staff and audience, I know there is a very exciting future ahead in MediaCity."

She will leave the BBC at the end of the year.

O'Brien was ranked number eight in How-Do's Media 100 in 2007

I wonder where this is going to leave the Cheshire licence-fee payers after O'Brien promised us in April that we would have a proper BBC news service and other online services by the end of this year. I sincerely hope her departure is not going to mean the BBC reneging on its commitments.

"A diffuclt decision" says Tamsin, but we have no idea why she has left! Does anyone know?
